The Children of Gods and Fighting Men (The Gael Song #1), by Shauna Lawless

I was lucky enough of getting a copy of The Children of Gods and Fighting Men (CoGaFM from now on), the debut novel from Shauna Lawless. As a fan of historical fantasy, this title was something I had on the radar for a long time since it was announced, and I can say that certainly it delivered, making almost impossible to let down the book.

SPSFC2: My allocation

Within each judging team for SPSFC there are roughly thirty (30) books assigned as their ‘slush pile’ and teams with multiple members then split the pile between them to begin reading. In Wayward Stars we have split things so that every book is read by at least two people. We aim to read 20% of each book and decide whether it’s one to continue as a full group or not. The Skin (Black Hind’s Wake #1), by J. E. Hannaford

The Skin is the first book on the Black Hind’s Wake duology, by J. E. Hannaford, who recently released the second part, The Pact (actually, it is being released the same day I write this review). It is a marvelous book, an ode of love to mythology, and a really engaging story. Before diving into a review of the content, we must talk about the visual aspect of the book, as it is a beautiful book, from the cover to the end, with stunning pieces of art in each chapter, which complement perfectly the story that is narrated inside.

The Swordman’s Lament (The Royal Champion #1), by G.M. White

The Swordman’s Lament is technically the first novel in the Royal Champion series, by G.M. White. Let me start this review by saying that there is a prequel novella, The Swordman’s Intent, situated 15 years before this first novel, which you can get for free by subscribing to G.M. White’s newsletter; and I highly recommend reading it before because I think it really gives another layer of enjoyment to the novel.
