The Hangman Feeds the Jackal: A Gothic Western, by Coy Hall

The Hangman Feeds the Jackal: A Gothic Western is an excellent horror novel by Coy Hall, and a really original twist on the genre. I feel that giving a numeric rate to this book is somehow unfair, as it is really unique, so in the end, my score is more a reflection of my enjoyment while reading because I think the craft is marvelous, and that it is really brave to touch some themes as mental illnesses in a horror setting. I have to admit that I was a little bit scared of the western subgenre from a horror author, mostly due to my bad experience with The Gunslinger, but this novel has managed to get a place among my favourite 10 horror plays. Let’s go into details.

Miss Percy’s Travel Guide to Welsh Moors and Feral Dragons (A Miss Percy Guide #2), by Quenby Olson

Miss Percy’s Travel Guide to Welsh Moors and Feral Dragons (for the rest of the review, Travel Guide) is the great second book in the A Miss Percy Guide series by Quenby Olson. A good summary of what I pretend to say in this review is that Olson took the formula that made the first book great and funny, improved it, and crafted a perfect continuation. If you enjoyed the first instance of this series, you will love the second one.

The Lost Sentinel (Relics of Power #1), by Emma L. Adams

The Lost Sentinel is the first novel in the Relics of Power series by the British author Emma L. Adams. It’s an interesting proposal that mixes sections that are heavily character-driven, with sections where the plot takes all the control over the narrative pace. Despite being a coming-of-age story, it feels really original, as the starting point is really different, and some of the classic tropes in the genre have been twisted enough until making them look new.
